Now Entering- KEY LARGO
Mile Markers: 112- 91…sounds about right.
Welcome to Key Largo. You have arrived here either via the “18-mile” stretch (MMs 126-108) of the Overseas Highway (US-1) that brought you in from Florida City, or the scenic, back-roads route along Card Sound Road (MM 126.5 heading south, MM 106.5 heading north). If you [...]

Canal Cobia!
You just never know what you’re going to see swimming around in the Florida Keys.
This evening my neighbor (with my assistance), caught a 34-pound cobia–in our canal!
It all started while he and his wife were snapper fishing and they noticed two very large, and very mean looking bull sharks swimming around.
Bull sharks are not uncommon [...]

The Smallest Alien in the Universe!
Last night I was attacked by the smallest alien in the universe. Wait, maybe “attacked” isn’t the right word. Last night I was visited by the smallest alien in the universe. There, that sounds slightly less fabricated.
It all went down a little past 11:30 PM-EST, outside of my home on the tropical island of Key [...]

There is a great little beach on [...]

Daytime Swordfishing in the Florida Keys- Cont.
Last month I posted about my Florida Keys daytime swordfishing excursions about the Permit out of Marathon, Florida.
Daytime swordfishing was rather new to all of us during our first few trips and though we did learn a lot, no actual fish were caught. We enticed a few hits, tore up some baits, and also acquainted [...]
Florida Keys Lobster Mini-Season
We are on the brink of another Florida Keys lobster mini-season and US-1 is flooded with tourists trailering their bug-hunting vessels into town. Pretty soon the reef will be overtaken by dive flags and center-consoles, and the waters rich with enthusiastic divers and snorkelers searching holes and ledges for tasty tails.
Before the madness ensues, I [...]
